The World Cup circuit in Men’s Sabre continued this weekend with the Trophée Luxardo in Padua, hosted by the Italian Fencing Federation. Stephen Concannon and Aidan Clarke, both of Salle Dublin, represented Ireland at the event. At present they are ranked 232 and 277 in the world, respectively.
Stephen Concannon defeated Chen CHN in the pool, but had no other victories and seeded 165th. Aidan Clarke, competing at World Cup level for the first time, had a more difficult time in the pools with V0D6 and seeded 187th.
Both fencers were eliminated in the first-round cut, but will fence again at the Sabre de Wolodyjowski in Warsaw next month.
