This year Irish Fencing is introducing a new format for the Junior and Cadet Nationals!

The youth Nationals will no longer take place alongside the senior Nationals, but are to be held as a separate event. The new standalone Junior, Cadet and Youth Nationals will take place on Saturday 30 April at Loreto Abbey, Dalkey, hosted by the IFF in conjunction with Pembroke Fencing Club.

Events will be available at all six weapons with divisions for U14, U17 and U20 fencers. For the first time, entry will be fully open, with the cup for National Champion awarded to the highest-placed fencer with (or eligible to hold) Irish citizenship.

The age categories break down as follows, and fencers are welcome to enter a higher age group if they wish.

  • U14: fencers born in 2002, 2003, 2004
  • U17: fencers born in 1999, 2000, 2001
  • U20: fencers born in 1998, 1997, 1996

In order to accurately assess demand for each event, online entry will close one week before the Junior Nationals. Events with fewer than four entries at the deadline will be cancelled. However, entrants will be able to indicate any events they’d like to fence should their preferred event be cancelled. The full and final schedule will be published on Saturday 23rd April. We hope to see you there!
