At the Trekanten International FIE Satellite in Men’s Foil, David Alexander improved his placing within the L32, while Conor Nagle reclaimed a World Cup point.
Victories over Abidogun GBR, Sanchez VEN, Persson SWE and Gillman GBR saw David Alexander safely into the tableau as 15th seed. In the L32, he met Christopher Nagle of Australia. A tough bout went right down to the wire, but Alexander was knocked out 15-14.
Conor Nagle got off to a rocky start in the pools, defeating Ericson SWE and Risco PER but suffering four defeats. He progressed to the DEs to face the higher-seeded Poppel SWE, whom Nagle overturned 15-10. His L32 opponent was seventh seed Lim CAN; Nagle engineered his second upset of the day with a 15-11 victory, taking him into the L16. In the quarter-final, he became the second Irishman to be thwarted by Christopher Nagle, falling to his Australian namesake 15-9.
Of 58 fencers, Nagle and Alexander placed 8th and 20th respectively. Well done to both fencers.
