Nine fencers from the Royal Belfast Academical Institution fenced at the PSFC in London last week, all participating in the foil events. The Public Schools' events are split into three age groups: fencers in 1st-3rd year contest the Mount-Haes trophies, 4th-5th years compete in the Junior events, and the Senior competitions are for pupils in 6th-7th year.
Having competed in the European Cadet Championships earlier this month, Ireland international Paul Verdon took silver in a field of 92 in Senior Épée. Teammate Theo Millar, who fences for GB at cadet level, brought home a further medal for RBAI with a bronze in the Senior Foil.
In the Junior Foil, Michael Thompson reached the L32, while Nkosinathi Khumalo made it to the L64, and Callum Watson placed 97th.
All four young RBAI fencers placed inside the top half of the Mount-Haes foil. Matthew McKay and Noah Brown both reached the L16, with the latter knocked out by an eventual finalist. Rowan Luney went out to the eventual champion in the L32 and Ross Chambers finished 47th.
