If you are interested in coaching fencing, you are cordially invited to take part in the fourth Level 1 Fencing Coach (all weapons) course developed by Fencing Ireland, together with Coaching Ireland, which will run over three weekends this winter:

  • 16/17 December
  • 13/14 January
  • 17/18 February

This course is intended for anyone who is already coaching beginner fencers in their club and wishes to add to their skills, and anyone who wishes to start coaching fencing. Although experience as a fencer is useful, it is not a prerequisite for attendance or qualification.

We would suggest that each club should put forward at least two fencers/coaches for this Level 1 course. As the course will be held in Dublin, we will give assistance towards accommodation for attendees based outside Dublin.

The cost per participant will be €100 which should be paid at the time of booking. Candidates can book a place by completing the online form on our website and making payment at the same time.

Places will be limited. We should, therefore, appreciate receiving expressions of interest by Wednesday 29 November 2017 (note: deadline extended). Places will be allocated in order of receipt of application.

We are glad to announce that we are now in a position to deliver Level 2. However, progression to Level 2 or further within the Fencing Ireland Coach Development Programme is dependent on first having achieved Level 1. Even though a coach may have been coaching for some time without Level 1, it will be absolutely necessary to have completed Level 1 before being accepted for Level 2. We anticipate that in addition to coaches who have already completed Level 1 some time ago, there will be a further cohort of newly qualified Level 1 coaches after this course, and all will be eligible for inclusion in Level 2 course to be run towards summer 2018.

If you would like to receive more information or have any questions at all about the course, please contact either Nuala McGarrity (, or Colm Flynn (
