Genevieve Clarke (California Fencing Academy) put on an even stronger performance in today’s competition at the Cadet World Championships, having edged into the L64 in yesterday’s U20s.

Clarke finished the pool with victories against Carmona MEX, Malickova CZE, Pediaditaki GRE and Meulenaar NED. After defeating Carvalho POR 15-9 in the first round, she was knocked out by world #10 Scruggs USA.

Pembroke FC’s Emilia Velma bested Tasdelen TUR in the pool, but didn’t progress to the tableau.

  • Genevieve Clarke – 45th of 113
  • Emilia Velma – 98th of 113

East of Ireland Open semi-finalist Jake McGillion Moore (Fairfield Fencing Academy) earned his place in the L128 with pool wins over Costa POR and Slavchev BUL. Drawing Sirb ROU, he brought the 26th seed right down to the wire, but lost 15-14.

Matthew McKay (RBAI / Fence Like an Olympian) had a tougher time in the cadet pools than in yesterday’s juniors, going out of the competition after the first round.

  • Jake McGillion Moore – 101st of 139
  • Matthew McKay – 135th of 139

Good luck to the two Irish foil teams in tomorrow’s Team Junior World Championships. Both squads enter the draw unseeded, with the girls likely to face Italy in the first round and the boys’ opponents to be confirmed.
