Three Irish internationals fenced for their universities this week as the 2015-16 BUCS season came to a close.
Foyle Fencing sabreuse Kathryn Marshall competed with the victorious University of Surrey team at yesterday’s BUCS Championship final in Sheffield. The Surrey women’s 1st team faced the University of Edinburgh, whose foil squad included Irish Olympic hopeful Victoria Duxbury.
Surrey concluded a superb BUCS season with a 107-97 win in the Championship. Surrey also topped the southern Premier league earlier this season, edging out the University of Cambridge after near-relegation last year.
However, Cambridge had their own reasons to celebrate this week. Ireland sabreur Niamh Spence (also formerly of Foyle Fencing) contributed to a win for the University of Cambridge in the annual Colours match against the University of Oxford.
