A full complement of four Irish fencers took to the piste at this year’s London foil satellite, rescheduled to September this season.

Stephen Brown (Grosvenor FC) earned the result of the weekend. Clearing the pool V2D4 with victories over Pinto COL and Jones GBR, Brown made the cut as 136th seed. He overturned Beke HUN 15-8 to reach the L128, where Brown managed his biggest upset of the day, defeating 8th seed Sebban FRA 15-12. Brown edged past
Singapore’s Au Eong in a 15-14 nailbiter, but his run ended in the L32 with a 15-7 loss to Tomasso Chiappelli of Italy.

In his second international season in Irish colours, James Brosnan (Warwick University) earned pool victories over Mylnikov RUS and Danchev BUL and also made the cut. He went out 15-13 to Lazak CZE to place 146th.

Michael Thompson (Lisburn Gladiators) fenced the satellite after competing in Saturday’s Junior World Cup. He defeated Blahut CZE in the pool but did not progress to the tableau. Thompson finished in 167th place.

Bronze medallist in April’s Nationals Lachlan Sykes (Salle Boston) placed 194th.
