Ireland had three fencers in the Men's Foil satellite on Saturday and one in the Women's Foil on Sunday.

Irish Open champion James Brosnan scored victories over Fortuna UKR, Page GBR, Kiss HUN, Prokharau BLR, Stiklica SRB and secured a bye into the L64. He was overturned 15-13 by Sanchez VEN, placing 37th.

Stephen Brown found himself in pool 1, defeating Richter AUT and Nedeljkovic HUN for a place in the tableau. He overturned Tan of Singapore 15-11 in the L128 then went out 15-13 to Largenton FRA.

Also earning two pool victories – over Babanics HUN and Kim KOR – was Lachlan Sykes, who fell just short of the cut on indicators.

World #20 Alexander Choupenitch of Czechia won the satellite overall.


Keziah Beattie turned out for the Women’s Foil satellite on Sunday, with victories over Prusova CZE, Raudaskoski FIN, Sirbu ROU and Valero-Collantes SWE in the pool. Despite easily qualifying for the DE, she was overturned by Saveanu ROU in the L64.
