In conjunction with Coaching Ireland, the IFF has developed a Coaching Development Programme with certification. Certified Coaches will be included on the Irish Fencing Coaches Register, which will be published on this website.

Although experience as a fencer is useful before undertaking a course, it is not a prerequisite for attendance or qualification. Progression to Level 2 or further within the Irish Fencing Coach Development Programme is dependent on first having achieved Level 1.

The course syllabus for Level I of the IFF Coaching Development Programme may be downloaded here.

The Irish Fencing Coaching Development Programme will provide the basis for more fencing coaches qualified under the Coaching Ireland umbrella, and thence more fencers and better fencers within Ireland. To date, two Level 1 courses have taken place. Further levels for the syllabus are currently under construction, led by Dr Jonathan Katz. Dr Katz has a strong background in fencing coaching, coach education, and professional sport psychology.

The IFF also runs standalone coach development workshops aimed at existing coaches. These focus on developing advanced skills including season planning, individual lessons, and session planning.
