Ireland’s representation didn’t finish with the Turin Grand Prix in this busy weekend for our international foilists.
European U23 Series
Junior fencer Anna Lee (Paris TA) fenced at the U23 event in Moedling, Austria. Defeating Marechal FRA and Tulen NED in the pool, she edged past the first-round cut to face Kraenkl AUT on home soil. Lee progressed 15-12 into the L32 for a draw against Valentina Ferrara of Italy. In her biggest upset of the day, Lee overturned the second seed 15-9, setting up a match against Melnikova RUS. Lee was knocked out 8-15 by the former JWC gold medallist, and Melnikova went on to take bronze.

European Cadet Circuit
California-based Genevieve Clarke started as she meant to go on at the Cadet Circuit in Tauberbischofsheim, earning victories over Mann GER, Lee USA, Del Bene ITA, and Wasilczuk POL – and with them, a bye into the L28. Clarke took down Marcotti FRA 15-12 before going out in the L64 to Rhodes USA in a career-best top 25% finish. In doing so, Clarke becomes the second Women’s Foil fencer to qualify for the upcoming Cadet Europeans and Cadet Worlds.

Unfortunately Robbie Cockburn (Grosvenor FC) was forced to withdraw during the pools, while Matthew McKay (RBAI / Fence Like an Olympian) concluded the pools with no victories.
