The EFC Cadet Circuit continued in Manchester on Saturday. Both Irish fencers progressed to their respective tableaux, in doing so earning qualification for this season’s Cadet Europeans and Cadet Worlds.

Men’s Foil

Matthew McKay (RBAI) defeated Fernandes POR and Rhys-Pollitt GBR in the pool to earn a place in the tableau. He overturned 23rd seed Wilmont-Jeinier DEN 15-14 in the first round, only to be knocked out 15-9 by Gjaldbaek DEN in the L64. Matthew placed 64th of 141. 

Robbie Cockburn (Grosvenor FC) placed 60th representing the UK while Daniel Sigurdsson (Grosvenor FC) placed 79th representing Iceland. Jonas Winterberg-Poulsen DEN took this year’s title.

Women’s Foil

Pembroke FC’s Emilia Velma was V3D3 in the pool, winning against Dyer GBR, Amore ITA, and Yan SGP. In the L128 she was upset 15-12 by Brigden GBR and placed 68th of 114. The overall championship went to Singapore’s Maxine Wong.
