Ireland third at Veteran Four Nations

Fencing Ireland played host to the Veteran Four Nations this weekend. Our over-40s team took to the piste in Dalkey on Saturday.  1st  England  2nd  Scotland  3rd  Ireland  4th  Wales England defended their overall championship, but were denied a grand slam by a strong Scottish Women’s Foil team. Selection beginning for 5 Nations – action required by athletes

Fencers who wish to be considered for Team Ireland must contact the selectors via email to selectors@irishfencing.net by May 15th to register their interest.  As 5 Nations selections are made on the basis of the Irish national rankings at the end of the season (i.e. post-Nationals), the Selectors will soon be naming the panel. Four Women’s Épéeists flew the flag for Ireland at the Cole Cup FIE Satellite in Sheffield today. Fencing Ireland hosted the 2017 National Championships at Loreto Abbey Dalkey over 22-23 April. Over 100 entries were received across the weekend. The European Championships for U23s began this morning in Minsk, Belarus, with three Irish foilists taking to the piste. James Brosnan (University of Warwick) made the L32 today, defeating Egyenes-Porsok SVK, Schoppa GER and Khamzin RUS in the pool. He earned a bye into the L32 and was knocked out by Borodachev RUS.
