Pembroke fencers Emilia Velma and Kiara Wigzell competed in girls foil at the Challenge Wratislavia in Poland this weekend. Brendan Cusack fenced at the Havana Grand Prix in Men’s Foil yesterday. Left with a pool of four after another fencer scratched, Cusack was V1D3, defeating Saucedo ARG, and seeded 100th of 134 entrants. Unfortunately he missed the cut by just three places and finished 116th overall.
At the British Schools Championships in London earlier this month, Oliver Hope took gold in U18 Men’s Épée as part of the Kings School Canterbury team. In the L32 at the European Junior Championships, the team representing Ireland fenced Romania. The squad, consisting of Philip Slater, Geoffrey Corcoran and Jonathan Burnside, was knocked out 45-17, allowing Romania to progress to the L16. Ireland placed 18th overall. The team events will finish tomorrow, concluding this year’s Cadet and Junior European Championships.
Brian Murray competed in Men’s Sabre at the European Junior Championships this afternoon. Despite close matches against Colleau FRA and Krasilnikov RUS, he finished the pool V0D6 and did not qualify for the DE tableau. Murray finished 56th overall.
